If you have a stock broker outside of Canada and are moving to Canada, you need to transfer it to a Canadian broker.
You should do this as early as possible because it’s a process. A friend didn’t do his in time, then his account blocked him from doing anything and all he could do was sell all his stock, send it to a Canadian account then buy the stock again which is super risky because the stock market is volatile.
Do not use Trade Republic, they do not allow you to switch countries.
On the other hand, my Microsoft stock through my work is stored in the US and will stay there. So you need to figure out where it is being held.

I have heard the most popular stock trading website and app is Wealthsimple. Wealthsimple also helps you file your taxes, so might be an option.
Generally, I wouldn’t restrict myself to just Canadian stocks.
