If you’ve already had an IEC Working Holiday Visa in Canada and want to extend your stay, you might be wondering: Can I get a second IEC visa? The short answer is yes—but only for some applicants. While an IEC extension Canada is not possible in the traditional sense, there are ways to apply for a second IEC visa through RO.
Here’s everything you need to know about getting a second IEC visa, including eligibility, the application process, and how to increase your chances of approval.
Can You Get a Second IEC Visa for Canada?
Some countries, like Ireland, the UK, and Australia, allow citizens to apply for a second International Experience Canada (IEC) Working Holiday Visa. However, Canada does not automatically grant a second IEC visa, meaning you’ll need to apply through a Recognized Organization (RO) to increase your chances.
What is a Recognized Organization (RO)?
A Recognized Organization (RO) is a private company or non-profit organization authorized by the Canadian government to help applicants secure an IEC visa. If you’re applying for a second IEC visa, your best chance is through an RO, as these organizations have dedicated spots available that aren’t part of the regular IEC visa pool.
Why get a Second IEC Visa Through an RO?
- Higher chances of approval – Most second-time applicants aren’t selected from the regular IEC Canada visa pool.
- Guidance and support – ROs help with paperwork and application steps.
- Faster processing – Since ROs have their own quotas, you avoid the uncertainty of the standard IEC visa Canada application process.

Recognized Organizations (RO) for a Second IEC Visa
Here are some Recognized Organizations that can help you secure a second IEC visa:
- SWAP Working Holidays – One of the most popular ROs for second IEC visas.
- Stepwest – Focuses on career-building work placements.
- Go International – Offers visa support and job placement services.
- Jenza - Try with SWAP first, if you can’t get it, go with Jenza. Jenza also uses SWAP but is a lot more expensive. I write more on this on the RO page.
- International Experience Canada (IEC) RO List – Full government-approved list.

How to Apply for a Second IEC Visa: Step-by-Step
1. Check Your Eligibility
- Confirm if your home country allows a second IEC visa.
- Review the age limits and other requirements.
2. Apply Through a Recognized Organization (RO)
- Regular IEC pools rarely allow second visas—you’ll need to go through an RO.
- Choose an RO that fits your budget (fees range from $1,700–$3,500 CAD).
3. Apply as Soon as the RO opens
- Most RO IEC visa waitlists open in November.
- Official RO applications open in January.
- Some ROs close their waitlists in under an hour (e.g., SWAP’s 2024 waitlist closed in 40 minutes!)
- Remember RO’s are super expensive so make sure you have the cash. It is $1,700 - $3,500 CAD (varies by organization).
4. Gather Required Documents
- The second IEC visa requires the same documents as your first IEC visa:
- Passport (valid for the duration of your stay)
- Proof of funds ($2,500 CAD minimum)
- Medical insurance covering the entire visa period
- Biometrics (if applicable)
Full list of required documents: IEC Visa Requirements
5. Wait for confirmation from your RO and gives information
- They will let you know if you have been accepted, then you will have to apply for the pool.
4. Apply for the IEC Visa Pool with the Government of Canada website
- In your RO portal there will be very important instructions, about what to select when filling out the forms. Make sure to check with your RO. For example, it asks about if you have a job contract, you still have to say “No” or you might be put in the wrong pool.
4. Request a letter from your RO
- There will be instructions on your RO platform once you’re in the pool.
5. Pay Visa Fees
- IEC Visa Fee: ~$161 CAD
- Biometrics Fee (if needed): ~$85 CAD
FAQ: IEC Extension Canada & Second IEC Visa
Can I extend my IEC visa in Canada?
No, IEC visas cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for a new visa through an RO or switch to another visa type (e.g., Young Professionals or an Open Work Permit). If you’re considering an IEC extension Canada does not currently allow extensions, so applying for a second visa is your best option.
Can I get a second IEC visa through the regular pool?
In most cases, no. The regular IEC visa pool does not allow second applications for most countries. Using an RO significantly increases your chances.
How many times can I apply for an IEC visa?
Most countries allow only one IEC visa. However, some countries (e.g., Ireland, UK, Australia) allow a second if you meet eligibility requirements.
Can I switch from an IEC visa to another work permit?
Yes! You may be able to transition to a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), Young Professionals visa, or an employer-specific work permit if you meet the requirements.
