When you arrive in Canada is when you will get your work permit. Note your POE or approval for your IEC is not your work permit. When you arrive, make sure to let them know you are coming to Canada to work and need your work permit.
‼️ Note: You need a valid visa before just arriving in Canada and getting a work permit. For more information on this please go here first:
What You Need to Provide at the Airport on arrival
- Passport
- Port of Entry (POE) Letter: Approval from IRCC for your work permit. This will be under your IRCC account after your visa has been approved.
- Proof of Funds: Bank statement showing sufficient funds (CAN$2,500 minimum).
- Proof of Health Insurance: Coverage for medical, hospitalization, and repatriation for your entire stay.
- Return Ticket or Funds: Proof of a return flight or enough money to purchase one.
- Work Permit Application Documents: Copies of supporting documents from your application.
- Proof of Financial Resources (if unpaid intern): Additional proof to cover all expenses during your stay.
- Printed Copies of Police Certificates (if applicable): Ireland you need this, they don’t always ask, but you can be turned around if you don’t have them.
- Proof of Medical Exam (if applicable): Helpful to have in case needed, though it’s unlikely.
Process at the airport
- Before leaving the airport, check for the immigration desk and go there.
- They will check over all of your documents, in most cases they briefly go over everything and might not even check your health insurance, but sometimes they go into more depth.
